Daniel Wiffen
Dan Wiffen has made a significant impact in swimming. His record-setting journey began in 2019 when, at 17, he broke an Irish Junior Record at the Irish Open Swimming Championships.
In 2021, Wiffen qualified for the Tokyo Olympics with remarkable performances at the Irish Trials, where he cut 22 seconds off his 800m freestyle lifetime best and 13 seconds off the Irish record. He also holds the Irish 1500m freestyle record at 15:16.90.
At the 2022 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Wiffen set a new Irish 800m freestyle record with 7:46.32 and became the first Irish swimmer to go under 15 minutes in the 1500m with a time of 14:57.66.
Wiffen made his mark at the 2024 Paris Olympics, capturing gold in the 800m freestyle while setting a new Olympic record and won the first gold medal for Ireland in Paris. Wiffen went on to earn a bronze medal in the 1500m freestyle, futher showcasing his exceptional talent!
