How do you ACTUALLY prevent water from entering the headphones?”  Well, thanks to something called hydrophobic coating, music in the water is possible.  The coating repels water particles by having a low-energy surface that promotes the formation of water beads that resist and glide off the unit's surface.

That said, it is important to note the difference between water-resistant and waterproof. Water-resistant devices come with a rating of IPX3 to IPX7, with an increasing amount of resistant to droplets and sprays of moisture.  On the other hand, waterproof devices are rated IPX7 to IPX9k. They allow for full immersion in water with increasing depth and time.  The Duo is IPX8.
